That's a great piece of work, really and truly. I actually really began to loathe how earth-centric ME3 was. I was more interested in saving the alien planets who were losing far greater numbers in their populations and much more advanced and developed cultures than our own. This piece truly captures the grim reality of the Reaper invasion of Palaven, even if the game only lightly touches on the subject.
Well, I wouldn't call cultures that are pretty centric and warlike much more developed than our own, if you ask me.
Salarians are so technocratic that they give a rats ass about other species, and only care if they can use em as pawns. Turian culture is so rigid and meritocractious, not to mention warlike. Aside from the Krogan and humans they had the fiercest infighting, complete with genocidal death squads to clean up after a nation has been conquered. And not to mention that when they fight a war, they make it a total war. Something like the Geneva treaties on Palaven? Not likely.
Thessia I agree is a pretty high culture. Maybe a bit TOO democratic, but compared to other races, I prefer a mary sue race over egocentric technocrats and military meritcrats.
Also, yeah, the game was earth centric...but theres a reason for that. You play as a human. Even if you play a pure Paragon Shepherd, it would make sense for a human or any race to be concerned about their species first, then the other ones. Earth was also one of the first "major" planets of the universe to get hit, and hit hard.
You say other races were loosing greater numbers? The Systems Alliance was loosing colonies in and out of the solar system before even the Turians (not to mention the batarians got hit even harder before any other race), and by the time the Reaper invasion hits earth, pretty much every human planet besides Earth is dying. And Reaper fleet that hits earth itself is one of the largest, probably even as large if not larger than Palaven. And the fact that you see much more Husks on the battlefields than say Marauders or Banshee's also cements the fact that Humans have the highest casualties.
wow, just wow, garrus vakarian, my all time favorite M.E character, and after playing M.E 3, seeing Palaven like this was upsetting, poor ol garrus home world, but ll in all, an amazing piece, captured it brilliantly.
